Emily's prayer

This happened a couple months ago before I started this blog, but I remembered it in church today and knew that if I didn't write it down I'd forget it.  A couple months ago Emily could not find her favorite Sleeping Beauty doll.  We had looked everywhere and she was becoming quite upset.  A thought came to me that this would be a great teaching moment.  I told her that Heavenly Father cares about her so much and could help her find the doll if she prayed to him.  She looked at me quizzically at first, but knelt down at the couch with me and she prayed to find her doll.  She then got up and started looking again.  Did I hope we'd find it soon, yes!  Was I a little nervous she wouldn't, sadly yes.  Within about one minute she had found it (in a place that I swear we had looked already a couple times).  She was so happy and we knelt down again and thanked Heavenly Father.  I could see in her eyes that she believed in this valuable principle.  

The best part about this story is that I went back to doing whatever I was doing and about 5 minutes later, Emily came to me and said, "Mom, I lost my doll again.  We need to pray to find it."  Then she whispered, "We're just pretending it's lost."  I looked over and she had put a pillow on top of it to "hide" it.  But I acted worried with her and we prayed again and then she looked under the pillow and exclaimed, "I found it!"  It was neat that she wanted to apply the principle of prayer again even though it was "pretend" this time.  I hope that as these principles are taught and applied over and over to Emily and Ashley that they'll remember them throughout their life!

Park City, part 2

Uh, oh, was there an accident during our trip to Park City?

Believe it or not, Emily wanted to trick the camera. :)  Emily fell asleep after having her ladybug painted on her hand and part of it came off onto her head.  She thought it was very funny.  I love her sense of humor so much!!

Park City

Well now that school's over I have time to post some things again.  As any teacher can tell you, the last week of school is crazy.  This year I also made a DVD for each of my students.  It took a long time, but it was definitely worth it!  Anyway, last weekend (over Memorial Day) we took a trip up to Park City.  It was only for two nights, but it was fun to get away.  The girls had a blast playing on the playground, making crafts, and especially SWIMMING!!  Emily and Ashley would stay in the water all day if we let them.  Kenny and Emily basically did. (What a good sport he was--but I think he loves it even more than Emily; and I love seeing the girls have such fun with him)  The resort we stayed at had a pretty nice pool so we were there a lot.  It was a fun relaxing couple days.

Our room was quite small (Kenny and I lovingly referred to it as a cave), but the girls loved the hide-a-bed that they got to sleep on together.

School's Over!

The reason I created this blog is for our family, but a huge part of my life is being a teacher too.  I won't post about them often, but school got over yesterday and I just thought I'd make a quick mention of it.  Like every year, there are wonderful kids that you hope your own kids are like when they are 5th graders and there are kids that drive you crazy.  Overall though, they were a great group and I will miss them.  One of the nice things about being a 5th grade teacher though is that I'll get to see them next year.  So, Mrs. Day's class of '08-'09, here's to you. :)

Zero

For Christmas we got a dog, whom Emily named Zero (from the dog in Nightmare Before Christmas).  Ashley fell in love with him almost immediately and can't get enough of him.  Every time she comes home, she comes in and "hugs" him, which basically consists of putting him in a headlock and sitting on him.  She will chase after him to hug him.  A couple days ago we left her alone with him for a second and then couldn't find either one.  This is where we finally found her.  This was definitely our laugh for the day.

I wonder what she thought she had done wrong to get sent to the kennel. :)

Sidewalk Chalk

Ashley's new obsession is sidewalk chalk.  She LOVES it!!  Every time we go near the garage she scream, "wok, wok" (her way to say chalk) and runs to get the chalk.  Emily is a nice sister and helps Ashley draw.  This is their newest creation, a flower.  If you look carefully you can see Ashley's addition (i.e. white line) to the flower.  Not bad for a four year old on the sidewalk.

Mother's Day

Over the past four years since I've had kids, Mother's Day has been pretty uneventful because my girls were so little.  Kenny did his normal things, which are nice, but I was so excited for the day when my kids were old enough to do something for me.  Well, it came this year.  Emily was so excited to make something for me and kept telling Kenny all the things she wanted to do and then would say, "Shh, Mom don't listen, it's a secret."  This morning when she woke up and came in to our room she said, "Happy Mother's Day" and then proceeded to go downstairs and start making my cards.  She spent quite a while on them and kept saying, "Mom, no peeking.  I'm not done yet."  Finally, (I don't know who was more excited, her or me) she folded them in half and with Daddy's help yelled, "Happy Mother's Day" and presented me with the paper.  I was so happy to get something simple yet wonderful from my sweet four year old for Mother's Day.  This has been my best one yet and hopefully just a taste of what is yet to come!

Not bad for a four year old--by the way, the duck looking thing at the bottom is supposed to be a heart, so cute!
