Children's Parade and Carnival

Every year during Strawberry Days in PG they have a children's parade. This year it happened to be on one of the many June days that were cold, rainy and windy. Emily's friend and her family wanted to go and so I relunctantly went with them. Boy, was it cold!! We then had to wait and wait and wait for our turn to start the parade. By then the other family gave up and went home; only Emily's friend stayed and walked it with us. The reason why I stuck it out is at the end of the parade they give each child a ticket to the carnival. Emily and Ashley LOVE the carnival (what kid doesn't) and had a blast like always. Emily even wanted to go on one of the big kid rides and Kenny was brave enough to go with her and managed not to get sick, which was a big plus! Gotta love Strawberry Days!

Swimming Lessons

We put Em in swimming lessons again this summer. Her teacher last year said she did great, but not great enough for the next level (it's in deeper water), so we put her in level 1 again. This time she soared!! She did so great. Sometimes the teacher even let go as she was floating and swimming. She had a fantastic time and, of course, a highlight of her lessons is going down the water slide on the last day. She now gets to move on to level 2. Way to go, Emily!

A Momentous Day

Last Tuesday, June 15th was a momentous day in the Day household. Emily lost her first tooth!! She is officially growing up! :( The tooth started to get loose at the end of May and each day we would wiggle it. I don't know who was more excited, Emily or me! It was very exciting. Finally Monday night it got REALLY loose and Emily had to decide whether to pull it out then or wait. The tooth was bleeding and she was a little freaked out by the blood so she chose to wait. When she woke up the next morning it was practically out so Kenny told her to twist it; she did and it came right out! She was very happy that it didn't even bleed! Great day! She was so excited to put it under her pillow that night and came right in the next morning to show us the money that she had gotten. ($10 by the way; way too much for the female tooth fairy, but the male tooth fairy won this one) I love you, Emily! Even though you're growing up so quickly, I'm enjoying every minute of it!

T-ball that is. :-) We enrolled Emily in T-Ball this year to see how she did. She really likes hitting a home run (that's being the last one to bat) and the treats at the end of the game. The rest of it...not so much. She has gotten better each game with throwing the ball and not sitting down while in the outfield. She has a better attitude too. She only comes over about twice a game now to ask me when it'll be over. She's a cutie; just not a natural ball player, but it is a good experience for her.

Last Wednesday, the Day family said goodbye to our niece Valeri. She left to go into the MTC to train for her mission to the Texas San Antonio-Spanish Speaking mission. She is the first missionary out of all the Day grandkids, so it was a pretty big deal. We went to lunch, took some pictures, and said goodbye for now to Emily and Ashley's cousin who made a wonderful choice! We're so proud of you Valeri and know you'll do terrific! Also, now Emily has a missionary that she knows to write letters to. (Well, mainly pictures, but she is only 5!)

Crazy Driver

Okay, I'm going to brag for a minute. My daughter, Emily, loves to help and serve others. She is so willing to help and give up things or lend a hand when needed, a lot of times without even being asked. I am so gosh darn proud of that little girl!!

Okay, now back to normal :-). The other night Kenny was mowing the lawn and Emily wanted to "help" her dad mow the lawn. She went out and to Kenny's total credit, he let her steer. She thought it was the best thing ever. The lawn however might not agree. If you look carefully at the pictures you can see all the curly Q's and random patterns she made. It was so cute. Way to go Kenny and not care that the lawn looked perfect the first time over! Emily loved it!

Another year down

I said this a year ago when I started my blog; I won't be writing about my teaching very much. But with the end of another school year I thought I'd do a quick mention. My class this year had a few hard kids, but overall they were fabulous! I'll miss them next year, but will get a great new group! I'm going to be doing a 5th/6th combined class next year so that will be a new challenge. I can't believe I've already taught for 13 years! I'm almost 1/2 done with my teaching career and that's weird to think about. But for the moment I'm just enjoying the summer and being a mom. :)
